FG COMMENCES PAYMENT OF CONTA TO NON-ACADEMIC STAFF IN FEDERAL TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS

The Federal Government has commenced the release of the Consolidated Non-Academic Staff Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CONTA) to non-academic personnel in Federal Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education across the country.

The payment covers the period from January to August 2026, according to the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, who announced the development.

Dr. Alausa said the release of the allowance was consistent with the commitment of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Administration to improving workers’ welfare, strengthening industrial harmony and providing an environment conducive to the effective delivery of quality education under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Minister explained that the payment reflects the Federal Government’s recognition of the critical role played by both academic and non-academic personnel in maintaining the smooth operation of tertiary institutions.

He noted that the welfare, motivation and dedication of staff remain important to institutional stability and the effective delivery of education, as well as to Nigeria’s broader human capital development efforts.

According to him, the release is also part of ongoing measures by the Federal Government to respond to legitimate staff welfare concerns, enhance industrial harmony and reduce the possibility of disruptions to academic activities within the nation’s tertiary education system.

The development comes shortly after the commencement of payment of the Consolidated Academic Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CATA) to academic staff on Monday, indicating the Federal Government’s continued efforts to meet its financial and welfare obligations to personnel across the tertiary education sector.

Dr. Alausa stated that the payments further demonstrate the Administration’s commitment to strengthening tertiary institutions that are responsible for developing the skilled manpower needed to support Nigeria’s socio-economic growth.

He assured stakeholders that the Federal Ministry of Education would maintain consultations with relevant labour unions, institutional authorities and other stakeholders to resolve outstanding matters, deepen mutual understanding and promote a stable, productive and globally competitive tertiary education system.

The Minister expressed appreciation to academic and non-academic staff, heads of tertiary institutions, unions and other stakeholders for their patience, understanding and continued cooperation with the Federal Government.

Dr. Alausa further reaffirmed the Ministry’s determination to sustain policies and programmes focused on staff welfare, institutional stability, human capital development and improved learning outcomes.

The Federal Ministry of Education therefore reassured personnel and other stakeholders in the tertiary education sector that the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, remains committed to meeting its obligations, resolving legitimate outstanding issues and advancing reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s education system.

The Ministry said these efforts remain central to achieving the human capital development objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
