FG Moves to Align 2027 Public Examinations, Plans August Results for Tertiary Admissions

By Adeola Kunle

The Federal Government has stepped up efforts to coordinate the timetable for the 2027 external examinations, with a target of releasing results by August 2027 to allow qualified candidates to begin the admission process into tertiary institutions in September.

The initiative is part of the education reform agenda of the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, being implemented through the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI). The initiative seeks to improve efficiency, strengthen coordination and deliver better educational outcomes across the country.

As part of efforts to achieve this objective, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, convened a meeting with heads and representatives of examination bodies at the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting focused on harmonising examination schedules, preventing clashes between examinations and ensuring that the marking, processing and release of results are completed within the proposed timelines.

Under the proposed 2027 examination calendar, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (JAMB-UTME) is scheduled to hold from March 15 to 25, 2027, with results expected in March.

The National Examinations Council Senior School Certificate Examination (NECO-SSCE) is proposed to take place from April 1 to May 14, 2027, while its results are expected to be released in August.

Similarly, the West African Examinations Council West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC-WASSCE) is scheduled for May 11 to June 18, 2027, with results targeted for release in August.

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) examination is proposed to run from June 1 to July 5, 2027, while the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) examination is scheduled for June 10 to July 9, 2027. Results for both examinations are also expected in August 2027.

Proposed 2027 Examination Schedule

| Examination Body | Proposed Examination Dates | Proposed Results Release |

|---|---|---|

| JAMB-UTME | March 15–25, 2027 | March 2027 |

| NECO-SSCE | April 1–May 14, 2027 | August 2027 |

| WAEC-WASSCE | May 11–June 18, 2027 | August 2027 |

| NABTEB | June 1–July 5, 2027 | August 2027 |

| NBAIS | June 10–July 9, 2027 | August 2027 |

The Ministry stated that consultations with the examination bodies would continue to ensure compliance with the proposed schedule, improve accountability and strengthen coordination among the relevant institutions.

The planned alignment of examination dates and results releases is intended to support a more predictable transition from secondary school to tertiary education, enabling eligible candidates to pursue admission without unnecessary delays arising from late examination results.

The Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, reaffirmed its commitment to advancing education reforms through NESRI, with the broader objectives of improving efficiency in the education sector and expanding timely access to tertiary e

ducation.
