JUST IN: Speaker Abbas Inaugurates 21-Member Committee to Legislate for Suspended Rivers Assembly
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has officially inaugurated a 21-member ad-hoc committee to take over legislative functions in Rivers State, following the suspension of the state's House of Assembly.

The inauguration ceremony is taking place at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, with committee members drawn from all six geo-political zones of the country.

While addressing the newly constituted panel, Speaker Abbas emphasized the non-partisan nature of their assignment. He stated that their mandate is to ensure peace, good governance, and prosperity in the oil-rich state in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s emergency proclamation.

“Your task is to oversee Rivers State following Mr. President’s emergency proclamation. You must not be partisan or biased,” the Speaker cautioned.

The House Leader, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, who also serves as the Chairman of the committee, was present at the event alongside Ali Isah (PDP, Gombe), who will serve as Deputy Chairman.

Other members of the committee include:

  • Idris Wase (North Central)

  • Aliyu Muktar (North East)

  • Sada Soli (North West)

  • Iduma Igariwey (South East)

  • Shehu Rijau

  • Wole Oke

  • Akara Hi Amadi

  • Patrick Umoh

  • Isa Anka, among others.

James Faleke, the representative from the South West, was unavoidably absent from the event.
