Cristiano Ronaldo has set the football world abuzz with a cryptic post on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting he may be preparing to leave Saudi club Al Nassr.
“This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all,” Ronaldo wrote late Monday night.
The message comes as his contract with Al Nassr nears its expiration this summer, sparking speculation about his next move.
The timing of Ronaldo’s post coincides with a critical Saudi Pro League match on May 26, 2025, in which Al Nassr lost 3–2 to Al Fateh — a result that dashed their hopes of qualifying for the AFC Champions League.
Despite Ronaldo scoring his 25th goal of the season and bringing his total for the club to 99, Al Nassr failed to hold their lead, allowing Al Fateh to seize the win. Their only remaining path to continental football now depends on Al Ittihad winning the King Cup, which would open a spot for Al Nassr in the secondary AFC tournament.
The loss represents a major blow for both the team and Ronaldo, casting further uncertainty on his future.
With a career spanning Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and now Al Nassr — along with a record-breaking run with Portugal — Ronaldo remains one of the sport’s most iconic figures. Recent personal milestones include surpassing 900 career goals and playing his 1,200th professional match.
While he has used similar language during previous transitions, this latest message has intensified speculation. Fans and analysts alike are left wondering whether a return to European football, a Club World Cup appearance, or an entirely new venture lies ahead.
As Ronaldo put it himself, “The story? Still being written.”
Meanwhile, neither Ronaldo nor Al Nassr has issued an official statement regarding the future of their partnership.
