President Bola Tinubu will inaugurate Section I of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway on Saturday, May 31, as part of his working visit to Lagos, the Presidency announced on Monday.
The Lagos-Calabar highway is a flagship infrastructure initiative of the Tinubu administration. The President will also commission other major projects, including the Lekki Deep Sea Port Tax Credit Concrete Road, the flag-off of Section II of the Coastal Highway, and the 7th Axial Road.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu will also virtually inaugurate key road infrastructure across northern Nigeria. These include the Kano-Kanwar-Danja-Hadejiya Section II Road, Yakasai-Zalli Road, Kano Northern Bypass, Zaria-Hunkuyi-Dabai Section I, Dabai-Kafur-Malumfashi Road, and the Malumfashi-Dayi-Yashe-Gidan Mutum Daya Section III.
In addition, the President will participate in the 50th anniversary celebration of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which began in Accra in April 2025. Commemorative events will continue in Lagos, including a reenactment of the 1975 founding declaration at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island.
At Eko Hotels and Suites, Tinubu will deliver a keynote speech outlining ECOWAS’s achievements. He will be joined by Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.), the only surviving Head of State who signed the original declaration, who is also expected to give a commemorative address.
The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Touray, will deliver the welcome remarks, while former Minister of External Affairs, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, will lead a review of ECOWAS’s five-decade journey, supported by expert panellists.
President Tinubu is expected to observe Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the State House, Dodan Barracks, before returning to Abuja.
