The Premier League has officially launched the 2025/26 season following its Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. With this administrative transition complete, all 20 participating clubs — including newly promoted sides Leeds United, Burnley, and Sunderland — have been formally confirmed as members of England’s top flight.
In a statement published on its website, the League said, “The change from the 2024/25 to the 2025/26 campaign has been formalised,” marking the official start of the new season.
Promotions and Relegations Finalised
Leeds, Burnley, and Sunderland have now received their Premier League share certificates, fulfilling the final legal requirement for promotion. The League noted that “a new share certificate for each promoted club has been signed by the Premier League directors and company secretary. As required under company law, the three clubs have been entered into the share register.”
Meanwhile, relegated clubs Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton have officially returned their Premier League shares, thereby concluding their top-flight membership. “The Premier League Board has confirmed the cancellation of these shares,” the League added.
Fixture Release Set for June 18
With the 20 clubs confirmed, attention now turns to the release of the full fixture list for the 2025/26 season. The Premier League has scheduled the announcement for Wednesday, June 18 at 09:00 BST, ahead of the season’s kick-off on Saturday, August 16.
“All 20 clubs can now look forward to 09:00 BST on Wednesday, 18 June, when they will discover their fixtures for the 2025/26 season,” the statement read.
In the interim, the official Premier League table has been reset, listing all clubs alphabetically. Additionally, the League’s social media platforms have begun following the official accounts of the three promoted clubs, signifying their full integration into the league structure.
Pre-Season Preparations Underway
With the new season now formally underway, clubs are expected to intensify their pre-season activities. Many teams have already unveiled their summer schedules, including warm-up matches and overseas training tours.
“Wednesday, June 4, marks the official changeover to the new season as Leeds, Burnley, and Sunderland become Premier League clubs,” the statement concluded.
