Aviation Ministry, NAF to Host Nigeria’s First International Airshow

The Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, in partnership with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), has set up a committee to finalise arrangements for Nigeria’s inaugural International Airshow, scheduled for December 2025.

According to a statement on Monday by the ministry’s Head of Press and Public Affairs, Odutayo Oluseyi, the initiative aims to strengthen national collaboration and build capacity in the aerospace sector.

The decision was made during a courtesy visit by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, to the NAF headquarters. Dr. Kana thanked the Air Force for its professionalism and said the visit was to deepen collaboration to ensure a successful Airshow.

Emphasising that international airshows typically include both civil and military displays, Kana urged the Chief of Air Staff (CAS) to leverage NAF’s expertise and platforms. He requested a “spectacular Air Display” to demonstrate Nigeria’s air power and a ceremonial parade for the President and foreign delegations.

Kana also invited the CAS to a meeting with all ambassadors to Nigeria, to be facilitated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He noted ongoing support from foreign airline operators and other stakeholders who have pledged full cooperation.

The new committee will determine the venue and engage key stakeholders. The Airshow is expected to attract major civil and defence aviation companies worldwide, promoting business transactions and boosting Nigeria’s economy, culture, and tourism.

Responding, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, assured the Ministry of the NAF’s commitment and readiness to support the Airshow. He described the event as a national project that would bring honour and economic benefits to the country, pledging full deployment of the Air Force’s resources.

Air Marshal Abubakar urged the committee to begin work immediately, promising all necessary support to ensure the event’s success.

The formation of this joint committee marks a significant milestone towards hosting Nigeria’s first International Airshow, highlighting a shared commitment to advance the nation’s aviation industry and economic development.
