FEDERAL MINISTRY OF EDUCATION PARTNERS WITH AMAZON WEB SERVICES (AWS) TO PROVIDE FREE DIGITAL SKILLS TRAINING FOR EDUCATORS AND STUDENTS

In a significant move to build a digitally empowered education sector, the Federal Ministry of Education, led by Honourable Minister Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, has launched a new partnership with AWS Academy. This collaboration aims to equip Nigerian students and educators with essential 21st-century digital skills, including cloud computing, machine learning, and other emerging technologies.

Aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda and the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), this project demonstrates the Ministry’s commitment to closing the digital divide and expanding opportunities for learners and teachers nationwide. Dr. Alausa described the initiative as both timely and transformative, positioning Nigerian graduates and lecturers to thrive in the global digital economy.

The pilot phase has already onboarded coordinators from 43 federal universities and polytechnics. The Ministry now plans to expand the programme to all federal, state, and private tertiary institutions, including universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country.

Vice Chancellors, Rectors, and Provosts are expected to nominate coordinators to serve as official contacts between their institutions, AWS, and the Ministry. These coordinators will identify lecturers, who in turn will enrol students for the training to ensure broad participation and smooth implementation.

To make this opportunity accessible, the Ministry will cover 50% of the certification costs, while AWS will fund the other 50%, allowing participants to complete the training and obtain globally recognized certifications at no cost.

State and private tertiary institutions interested in joining are encouraged to register their coordinators through the official portal available on the Ministry’s website:

The second phase of onboarding will begin soon, and the Ministry urges all eligible institutions to register promptly to benefit from this initiative, which aims to redefine the digital landscape of Nigerian education.

This partnership with AWS represents a major step towards inclusive, innovative, and skills-driven learning in Nigeria, ensuring that every student and educator can participate fully in the global digital revolution.
