The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away at the age of 90.
Sources confirmed that the monarch died in the early hours of Monday during the celebrations marking his 90th birthday and first coronation anniversary. Oba Olakulehin had ascended the throne after the passing of the late Oba Lekan Balogun.
A source close to the Olubadan-In-Council told DIP CONNECTS ONLINE NEWS that the paramount ruler’s death has been communicated but is yet to be officially announced by the Oyo State Government. “We received the message that the Olubadan passed away this morning. He has joined his forefathers, though an official announcement is still expected,” the source said.
Another palace insider confirmed that the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland and former governor of Oyo State, Oba Rashidi Ladoja — who is next in line to the throne — is currently abroad but is expected to return soon. “We are expecting Oba Rashidi Ladoja to come back home. He must have been briefed,” the source added.
