US Singer Oliver Tree Reportedly Dies in Rio Helicopter Tragedy

US musician and internet personality Oliver Tree has reportedly died following a mid-air collision between two helicopters in Brazil that left six people dead. The crash occurred over Rio de Janeiro on Sunday.

The 32-year-old artist, known for songs such as Life Goes On, Miss You and Alien Boy, was said to have been travelling in one of the helicopters when the incident happened.

One of the helicopters is reported to have crashed into a car park at a dealership, sparking a fire that destroyed around 20 vehicles. Footage aired by Brazilian media showed one aircraft falling from the sky before flames and thick smoke engulfed the crash site.

Authorities in Brazil have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collision. The Military Fire Department of the State of Rio de Janeiro said emergency responders were deployed to the scene around 9 a.m. local time.

Argentine content creator Gaspar Prim Diaz, also known as Gaspi, was reportedly among those on board, alongside Lucas Brito Chaves, Lucas Vignale, pilot Alexandre Souza, and pilot Charles Marsillac, according to manifest details.

Oliver Tree, born Oliver Tree Nickell in Santa Cruz, California, rose to fame in 2016 after gaining viral attention online. He later built a global fanbase with his distinctive style, bowl haircut, and genre-blending music. He had recently begun a world tour, performing in São Paulo on June 6, with upcoming shows scheduled across Europe including Lisbon, Glasgow, Manchester and London. Tributes have since poured in, including from British artist KSI, his collaborator on the track Voices, while he was also nominated for a Brit Award in 2024 for Miss You and previously set a Guinness World Record in 2020 for the world’s largest kick scooter.
