The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has expressed profound grief over the death of Ms. Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a 29-year-old reporter and news anchor with Arise News, who had been assigned to cover the Ministry of Women Affairs before her tragic passing.
Hajiya Imaan described the loss as painful and devastating, not only to Somtochukwu’s family and colleagues but also to the entire media industry and everyone whose lives she touched. She praised the late journalist’s dedication, professionalism, and vibrant personality, noting that she stood out as a promising young reporter whose career and life were cut short in a cruel and unacceptable manner.
The Minister extended her condolences to the management and staff of Arise News, urging them to draw strength from Somtochukwu’s commitment to truth, justice, and national development, which she said would remain a lasting legacy.
Condemning the circumstances surrounding her death, Hajiya Imaan described the incident as unacceptable and called on security agencies to leave no stone unturned in identifying and prosecuting the perpetrators of the heinous crime.
“Such a bright candle has been blown out in her prime. Nigeria has lost a young woman of talent, courage, and promise. On behalf of the Ministry of Women Affairs, I extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, colleagues, and the entire Arise News family. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” the Minister stated.
