Tinubu Hails Olubadan Coronation, Declares End to Economic Hardship

President Bola Tinubu on Friday declared that Nigeria’s period of economic hardship is over, assuring citizens that the nation has entered a new phase of growth and prosperity.

Speaking at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, during the coronation of His Imperial Majesty Oba Adewolu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Tinubu said the economy had “turned a corner” and that “a bright light is at the end of the tunnel.”

He thanked Nigerians for their resilience, likening their sacrifices to the pain of a surgical operation.

“Your suffering has been as painful to us as a painful surgery. But the economy has now returned to a moment of growth and prosperity. Thank you for your perseverance and endurance,” the President said.

The coronation, which drew thousands to the ancient city, was not only a celebration of Ladoja’s ascension but also an opportunity for Tinubu to reflect on his political journey.

Recalling his campaign visit to Ibadan, he said:

“I once came to Oke Mopo to seek your support and told you, ‘Emi lo’kan’ (it’s my turn). Now we are there. Thank you very much.”

Tinubu also paid tribute to the new monarch, describing him as both a renowned businessman and statesman.

“Kabiyesi, happy birthday once again. It is a privilege for me, as President, to witness your coronation and the expectations and history we share together as you ascend the throne of your forebears,” he added.

Oba Ladoja, a former Governor of Oyo State, ascended the throne after a 32-year journey through Ibadan’s traditional chieftaincy system. His coronation is widely regarded as historic, making him the first former governor of the state to become Olubadan—a unique blend of political and traditional authority in one figure.
