Abia ALGON Endorses Otti for 2027 Re-election, Rejects Former Governors’ Threats

The Abia State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has officially endorsed Governor Alex Otti for re-election in the 2027 general election, commending his performance, purposeful leadership, and commitment to restoring integrity, efficiency, and stability in the state.

The endorsement comes amid political tension following threats from three former governors, led by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, that Otti would not secure a second term. ALGON, however, rejected the former governors’ position, affirming that the future of the state lies in the hands of its people and the democratic process.

In a communiqué issued on Friday in Umuahia, ALGON, chaired by Chinedum Ekeke, emphasized that Abia State is on a path of renewal under Otti’s leadership. The group condemned attempts to pre-empt the democratic process or undermine visible progress through speculative political rhetoric.

The statement read in part, “Since assuming office, Governor Alex Otti’s administration has demonstrated a clear commitment to good governance, fiscal responsibility, and service delivery, with measurable improvements recorded across the 17 local governments in road construction, healthcare, and educational facilities, prompt payment of salaries and pensions, clearing of salary backlogs, and prudent management of public resources.

“ALGON, Abia State, hereby passes a unanimous vote of confidence on Governor Alex Otti and supports his re-election in 2027 in recognition of his demonstrable performance and purposeful leadership.”

The communiqué added, “Where citizens were once hesitant to identify openly with Abia State due to years of institutional decline, there is now renewed pride among Abians at home and in the diaspora, reflecting restored confidence in the state’s leadership and public image.

“As custodians of grassroots governance, ALGON members interact constantly with our communities and can attest to the growing public confidence in the state’s direction and tangible benefits experienced by the people. Leadership in a democracy is determined by performance and the freely expressed will of the electorate through credible elections, not by declarations or political gambles. ALGON, Abia State, will always elevate public engagement and uphold factual discourse.”

Dip Connect Online News reports that the endorsement signals a strong backing for Otti at the local government level ahead of the 2027 elections.
