Oliseh Declares Super Eagles’ AFCON 2025 Form Best in 20 Years

Super Eagles legend and former coach Sunday Oliseh
has hailed the Nigerian national team, describing their performances in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations 2025 as the best he has seen in two decades.

In an interview shared on X on Tuesday, Oliseh reflected on the team’s journey in the tournament, admitting he initially had reservations but is now impressed by their current form.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the next games. People were shouting about the Tunisia game; for me, the Tunisia game was not really exceptional. The Tanzania game, for me, was not exceptional. I made my opinions clear. It’s no secret anymore,” Oliseh said.

However, the former captain noted a remarkable improvement in recent matches against Uganda, Mozambique, and Algeria.

“But the way these Super Eagles have played the last three games is the best I have seen Super Eagles play in 20 years. In 20 years, since 2006,” he declared. “You can say Sunday said this.”

Oliseh praised the tactical dominance displayed under the current management:

“Ask anybody what they saw as a football analyst, and they will tell you Nigeria now forces the opposition to play defensive non-stop. Nigeria puts pressure from defence to midfield, and Onyeka and Ndiidi are hitting everything in midfield. And look, Iwobi is just running the show like an orchestra,” he said, sharing his enjoyment of the team’s play.

He admitted that commentating on Nigeria has become a professional challenge due to his excitement:

“Commentating on Nigeria is the most difficult thing to do because you want to give all the compliments, but at the same time you’re saying, oh, no, no, no, I have to be neutral.”

Following Nigeria’s 2-0 quarter-final win over Algeria on Saturday, Oliseh took to X to express his confidence in the team, posting: “Our Super Eagles are looking like AFCON Champions from every angle! Defence, ball possession, and match management. What a dominant display. Just love the attitude.”

The Super Eagles are now set to face host Morocco in the crucial semi-finals tomorrow, Wednesday, in Rabat, as they continue their quest for AFCON 2025 glory.
