The Lagos State Government has expressed shock over the collapse of a bungalow classroom block at Odokekere High School in Ikorodu, assuring parents and the public that no lives were lost in the incident.
In a statement released by the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS), the government described the event as unfortunate, noting that the affected block had already been earmarked for demolition as part of plans to replace it with a more suitable structure for the school’s growing student population.
“The classroom block had already been marked for demolition to construct a befitting classroom edifice capable of accommodating the large student population,” the statement said.
The SCRPS confirmed that all students are safe, emphasising that no casualties occurred.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed the immediate relocation of affected pupils to nearby schools to ensure that academic activities continue without disruption.
SCRPS officials are scheduled to visit the school for an on-site assessment, which will inform the government’s plans for the prompt construction of an ultra-modern classroom block to replace the collapsed structure.
