Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has won his first trophy with Qatari side Al Ahli, marking an important milestone in his career.
Al Ahli claimed the UAE-Qatar Super Cup Challenge Cup after defeating Al Jazira in a dramatic penalty shootout.
Although the 32-year-old defender did not feature in the match, the victory comes shortly after he completed his move to Al Ahli SC of Qatar from Saudi club Al Kholood.
Troost-Ekong recently signed a contract with the Qatari club that runs until June 2028, marking a significant step as he joins one of Qatar’s top sides.
A key figure in the Super Eagles setup, the experienced defender brings years of exposure from both European and Middle Eastern football. His arrival is expected to strengthen Al Ahli’s defence and add leadership to the backline.
The final, played at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium on Sunday night, ended in a hard-fought draw in regulation time before Al Ahli edged Al Jazira 4–3 on penalties.
The triumph signals a promising start for the former Watford and Fenerbahçe defender with his new club and underlines Al Ahli’s ambition to compete strongly in regional competitions.
