Ministry assures Nigerians of sustained reforms, accountability and improved service delivery across all education institutions
The Federal Ministry of Education on Wednesday, 6th May 2026, formally inaugurated Chairmen and members of Governing Boards of key agencies under the Ministry, Principal Officers of the Federal University of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship, Bama, the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’Yak-Shendam, and also reaffirmed the reappointment of Chief Executive Officers of its parastatals. The ceremony, held at the TETFund Auditorium, Maitama, Abuja, marks a renewed phase in the Federal Government’s ongoing education sector transformation agenda.
In his inaugural address, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, CON, described the event as a national call to duty anchored on responsibility, reform, and results. He noted that the inauguration goes beyond administrative formalities, representing a deliberate strategy by government to strengthen governance structures, deepen institutional reforms, and accelerate measurable progress across all levels of the education system.
Dr. Alausa expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his unwavering commitment to repositioning education under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He stated that the President’s leadership continues to provide strong policy direction, strategic investment, and the political will required to transform education into a true driver of national development. According to him, the administration’s conviction that education remains the most powerful tool for national transformation is firmly shaping ongoing reforms.
The Minister congratulated the newly inaugurated Chairmen and members of Governing Boards, describing their appointments as a call to serve with integrity, discipline and measurable impact. He charged them to provide strategic oversight, strengthen accountability mechanisms, and support management teams in delivering results that reflect value for public investment. He emphasized that their role is critical in bridging policy direction with effective implementation across institutions.
He also congratulated the Principal Officers of the Federal University of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship, Bama, including the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Bursar and Librarian. He described them as pioneer leaders entrusted with the historic responsibility of laying a solid institutional foundation. He urged them to demonstrate visionary leadership by building strong academic systems, promoting impactful research, developing faculty capacity, ensuring student welfare, and fostering strategic partnerships that will define the institution’s future relevance.
Speaking further, Dr. Alausa commended the reappointed Chief Executive Officers of various agencies, noting that their continuation reflects confidence in their performance and institutional experience. He however stressed that continuity must translate into greater innovation, deeper reform implementation and improved outcomes. He reiterated that the education sector must record visible progress in access, quality, equity and relevance.
The Minister also charged the newly appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’Yak-Shendam, to provide purposeful and transformative leadership. He emphasized the central role of polytechnics in driving Technical and Vocational Education and Training, skills development, and industrial competitiveness. He urged him to reposition the institution as a centre for practical skills, entrepreneurship development and industry-aligned training.
Reaffirming the broader reform direction, Dr. Alausa stated that the education sector is currently undergoing comprehensive, data-driven reforms aimed at improving learning outcomes and global competitiveness. He identified persistent challenges including learning poverty, infrastructure deficits, uneven teacher quality, and the need to strengthen research and innovation systems, noting that the Ministry is intensifying efforts to address them decisively.
He further highlighted ongoing reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, including curriculum modernisation, digital transformation of education systems, expansion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training, and strengthened data-driven planning and evaluation systems. He described these initiatives as essential for building a globally competitive education system capable of meeting the demands of the modern economy.
Dr. Alausa also emphasized the importance of transparency, prudent resource management, and strict compliance with due process. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening monitoring and evaluation systems, improving policy coordination, and deepening collaboration across agencies to ensure a unified government approach that leaves no learner behind.
He concluded by urging all appointees to lead with integrity, collaborate effectively, and remain focused on delivering results that will strengthen public confidence in the education sector. On behalf of the Federal Government and with the confidence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, he formally inaugurated the Governing Boards, affirmed the appointed Principal Officers, and revalidated the Chief Executive Officers.
He congratulated all appointees and wished them a successful and impactful tenure, adding a prayer for wisdom, national progress, and sustained educational transformation.
In her welcome address, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, described the inauguration as a significant milestone in the ongoing repositioning of Nigeria’s education sector for improved service delivery, credibility and global relevance. She noted that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, education reforms are being implemented through strategic investments and targeted policy interventions aimed at expanding access and improving quality.
She highlighted the steady progress being recorded by agencies such as the National Examinations Council and the National Board for Technical Education in strengthening examination integrity and advancing technical and vocational education across the country. According to her, these reforms are already contributing to improved standards and greater public confidence in the system.
Professor Suwaiba further announced the constitution of an eight-member committee to facilitate the sharing of academic and clinical facilities between the Federal University of Technology, Minna and Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, in support of medical programme accreditation. She explained that the initiative reflects the Ministry’s commitment to collaboration, efficient use of national resources, and ensuring that students are not disadvantaged in accessing quality education.
She urged all appointees and stakeholders to discharge their responsibilities with diligence, professionalism and a strong sense of national duty, adding that sustained collaboration remains key to achieving the Ministry’s reform objectives.
