Yobe State University Appoints New Vice-Chancellor and Registrar

The Yobe State Government has approved the appointment of Professor Mohammed Bashir Tahir as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Yobe State University, Damaturu.

The approval was granted by Governor Mai Mala Buni following a recommendation from the university’s Governing Council at its meeting on January 15, 2026, a statement signed by the Council Chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Goniri, confirmed on Friday.

“The Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has approved the appointment of Professor Mohammed Bashir Tahir as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Yobe State University, Damaturu, following a recommendation by the Governing Council of the university at its meeting held on January 15, 2026,” the statement read.

Prof. Tahir, a Professor of General Surgery and Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons, previously served as the Medical Director of the Ultra-Modern Police Hospital, Damaturu. He succeeds Prof. Bukar Jamri, who was serving as Acting Vice-Chancellor.

In a related development, the Governing Council also approved the appointment of Mallam Isa Audu Dallari as the substantive Registrar of the university. The statement noted that Dallari’s appointment followed a recommendation by the Selection Committee, in line with the Yobe State University Law, 2006 (as amended).

Dallari currently serves as the Director of Administration at Yobe State University, Damaturu.
