Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has approved reduced working hours for state employees in recognition of the ongoing Ramadan and Lent fasting periods.
The directive, which took effect on Thursday, February 19, 2026, was announced as part of measures to support workers observing the religious fast.
According to a circular issued the same day by the Office of the Head of Service and signed by Ayanleye Aina, public servants are to close work at 2:00 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and at 1:00 p.m. on Fridays throughout the fasting season.
The circular stated that the adjustment is intended to allow workers more time for prayers for sustained peace and tranquillity in the state, particularly as Osun prepares for its gubernatorial election later this year.
However, personnel in essential services especially medical workers are exempted due to the critical nature of their duties.
The governor also directed political office holders, accounting officers of ministries, departments and agencies, heads of non-ministerial bodies, local government authorities, and local council development areas to ensure full compliance and circulate the directive widely among staff.
