Nollywood actor and singer Gabriel Afolayan has spoken candidly about his journey in the entertainment industry, emphasising that his career path was shaped by personal conviction rather than family obligation.
Speaking during an interview with Channels Television, Afolayan reflected on his passion for acting and the influence of his father’s legacy, noting that while inspiration is important, inner conviction ultimately determines one’s path.
According to him, although his father is a respected figure in the industry, his decision to pursue acting was driven by an internal calling that manifested from a young age.
“Yes, I’ll put it that way. Because being inspired is one thing. Having your own inner core is another thing. We are about six in this business, while we have other siblings doing completely different things. It could have been the same with them if that was truly their path. I think this is simply what a few of us want to do, whether our father was into it or not,” he said.
Afolayan explained that even while growing up, he felt a strong sense of direction toward entertainment, independent of external influence.
“I grew up strictly feeling that this is exactly what I wanted, even without seeing my dad or anyone else as a reference point. I think it was just inner,” he added.
The actor further described his career as more of a calling than a profession, stressing that his background and early exposure to films only reinforced what he already felt within.
“It was within me. We watched a lot of films while growing up, and those things inspire your intuition. For me, I can say for a fact that this is what I love to do. If it were another life, we probably wouldn’t know what to do until we’re in that life. But in this life we are in right now, for me, this feels more like a calling than just a job,” he said.
Afolayan’s remarks highlight the blend of heritage and personal passion that has defined his career in Nollywood, underscoring a journey rooted not merely in legacy but in deliberate choice.
