Kai Cenat Touches Down in Lagos Again, Sparks Fresh Hopes for Makoko School Project

Popular American Twitch streamer and internet personality, Kai Cenat, has returned to Nigeria, arriving in Lagos for the second time amid renewed focus on his long-promised school project for children in Makoko.

Cenat landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Wednesday, where he was received with a lively band performance, quickly generating excitement and widespread reactions on social media.

The visit comes nearly a year after his first trip to Nigeria, during which he pledged $5 million towards the construction of a school for children in the Makoko waterfront community, often described as Lagos’ floating slum.

The project, however, has experienced delays, largely due to difficulties surrounding land acquisition and regulatory approvals in Makoko. Owing to the area’s unique floating structures, Cenat’s team later moved the proposed school site to Yaba, a more stable part of Lagos. He has since assured that children from Makoko will still benefit from free education once the school becomes operational.

During his Mafiathon 3 livestream, Cenat disclosed that more than $1 million has already been raised for the initiative. He explained that funds would be released in phases and emphasised the importance of long-term sustainability, noting that the goal is to establish a lasting institution rather than rush the construction process.

Cenat’s return has reignited excitement among Nigerian fans, with many hopeful that the visit signals renewed momentum for the project. However, some social media users have expressed scepticism, calling for tangible progress and clearer timelines on the school’s completion.
