Lagos Authorities Seal Ebute Metta Facility Over Alleged Sewage Dumping

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has shut down a public toilet located on Savage Street in Ebute Metta for allegedly discharging untreated sewage into a public drainage channel.

Inspectors sealed the facility on Wednesday after confirming the violation. The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the enforcement action on Thursday, stating that operators intentionally pumped raw effluent into a community drain. Residents had reportedly complained about foul odours and visible sewage flowing along the street.

Wahab described the act as a public nuisance with serious health risks, warning that such practices endanger groundwater quality, sanitation standards, and environmental safety.

He cautioned that violators would face prosecution and urged residents and business owners to adopt proper wastewater disposal methods. He added that environmental compliance is a shared civic responsibility and said authorities would intensify monitoring in high-risk areas.
