Nigeria Showcases Youth and Culture: NYSC Carnival Highlights National Unity and Talent

Abuja, Nigeria
— Nigeria’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has taken a bold step in promoting national unity and youth empowerment through its 2026 Batch 'A' Stream One orientation camp cultural carnival, drawing strong support from government leaders and cultural stakeholders.

The event, held at the FCT Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Abuja, saw Corps Members perform the cultural heritage of states other than their own, reflecting the diverse and integrative spirit of Nigeria.

The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, who attended as Special Guest of Honour, urged governments, corporate bodies, and philanthropists to support NYSC cultural initiatives. Represented by Permanent Secretary Dr. Mukhtar Yawale Muhammed, Musawa pledged to collaborate with the NYSC to institutionalize the cultural carnival as a nationally recognized platform, providing logistics and technical support to ensure the event becomes a fixture in Nigeria’s cultural calendar.

"These young Nigerians are showcasing the richness of our heritage, and we are committed to taking their talent to national and international platforms," the Minister said.

Also speaking, Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, represented by Permanent Secretary Dr. Maryam Keshinro, highlighted the NYSC’s role in fostering unity through exposure to diverse cultures and pledged support for Corps empowerment and improvement of camp facilities.

In an interview, NYSC Director-General Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu emphasized that the Scheme remains committed to promoting unity in diversity, ensuring that young Nigerians continue to use such platforms to celebrate and share the country’s cultural heritage.

The carnival demonstrates how cultural initiatives can unify a nation while empowering its youth, positioning Nigeria’s young talent on a national and international stage.
