The Federal Government has secured another legal victory after an arbitration tribunal dismissed claims worth $6.2 million filed by European Dynamics UK Ltd. against Nigeria.
The development was announced Sunday in a statement by Kamarudeen Ogundele, spokesperson for the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.
The dispute arose from a disagreement between the contractor and the Bureau of Public Procurement over a national e-procurement project. According to the statement, the tribunal’s decision is final and cannot be appealed, and it dismissed all claims brought by the company, shielding Nigeria from financial liability estimated at over $6.2 million (about N9.3 billion) in alleged payments and damages.
Nigeria’s legal defence was led by Johnson & Wilner LLP, with Basil Udotai, the firm’s founding partner, heading the arbitration team alongside associates and strategic partners.
The ruling adds to Nigeria’s recent record of successes in international legal disputes. In October last year, the UK Supreme Court ordered Process and Industrial Developments to pay £44 million in legal costs to Nigeria, following the country’s 2023 victory in an $11 billion arbitration case decided in London.
