UEFA Suspends Prestianni for Real Madrid Clash Over Alleged Discriminatory Incident

UEFA has provisionally suspended Gianluca Prestianni, winger for Benfica, ruling him out of Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League second-leg tie against Real Madrid following an incident involving Vinicius Junior.

The decision follows the appointment of a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector to investigate allegations of discriminatory behaviour during the February 17, 2026 knockout playoff first-leg match.

In an official statement, the European football body said that after reviewing an interim report from the investigator, the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body determined that Prestianni should be suspended for one UEFA club competition match for a prima facie breach of Article 14 of its Disciplinary Regulations, which addresses discriminatory conduct.

UEFA emphasized that the provisional ban does not prejudge the final outcome of the case, noting that a final ruling will be made after the investigation is concluded and formally submitted to its disciplinary authorities. Further updates will be issued in due course.

The temporary suspension means the Argentine winger will miss the decisive return leg against Madrid while proceedings continue. UEFA has not disclosed details of the alleged incident.
