Defence Minister Moves to Strengthen Military Operations After Surge in Terror Attacks

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa (rtd), has directed the country’s service chiefs to visit the North-East and North-West regions to reassess and strengthen ongoing military operations following a surge in terrorist attacks.

The directive was issued on Wednesday during a high-level meeting between the minister and the service chiefs at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Abuja, convened to address escalating security challenges in the affected zones.

According to the minister’s Media Adviser, Timothy Antigha, the visit is intended to enable the military leadership conduct on-the-ground assessments and develop strategies to improve operational effectiveness against insurgent and bandit groups.

“The service chiefs are expected to visit the North-East and North-West and report back with their findings after reviewing the security situation and ongoing operations,” Antigha said in a statement.

Recent weeks have witnessed a spate of attacks by terrorists, particularly in the North-East and North-West, where military formations have been targeted and several security personnel killed.

During the meeting, the defence minister emphasized the need for renewed strategies to confront the evolving security threats.

“Ensure you rejig military operations in the North-East and North-West region,” Musa told the service chiefs, according to Antigha.
