Kaduna Governor Warns Journalists Against Politicians Masquerading as Activists

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has cautioned journalists to remain vigilant against what he described as “latter-day activists,” warning that some politicians exploit activism only when government decisions do not favour them.

The governor made the remarks on Thursday while breaking the Ramadan fast with media professionals at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna. He urged journalists to guard against forces that could undermine Nigeria’s democratic progress, highlighting the critical role the media has historically played in the country’s pro-democracy struggle.

“These activists are politicians who adopt activism as a tool to advance their personal ambitions,” Sani said, emphasizing that such figures often focus on ethnicity and religion to divide the country rather than prioritizing development issues such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and job creation.

Governor Sani also praised journalists for their courage during past struggles against military rule, noting that their efforts often came at the risk of their freedom and lives. He called on media professionals to continue ensuring that Nigeria’s democratic gains are preserved against what he termed “conflict merchants.”

In addition to the cautionary message, Sani highlighted his administration’s achievements, including road construction across all 23 local government areas, upgrades in secondary healthcare facilities, and a significant reduction in out-of-school children.
