The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has extended the deadline for student loan applications for the 2025/2026 academic session, giving additional time to institutions that requested an extension to enable their students complete the process.
The development was announced on Thursday by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the fund, Akintunde Sawyerr, in an official statement.
According to Sawyerr, the extension applies only to institutions that formally asked for extra time, allowing their students more opportunity to finalize applications under the government’s student loan programme.
He explained that the decision was taken to ensure that all eligible Nigerian students have a fair chance to access the financial support scheme.
Students in the affected institutions were encouraged to take advantage of the extension by completing their submissions through the official NELFUND student loan portal.
NELFUND also reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustainability in managing the programme, noting that the initiative is designed to help students overcome financial barriers and improve access to higher education across Nigeria.
