Popular Nigerian actress and media personality Biola Adebayo has publicly apologised following widespread criticism over her recent interview with embattled actor Baba Ijesha.
The backlash began over the weekend after Baba Ijesha, who was recently released from prison after serving time for sexual assault-related offences, appeared on Adebayo’s podcast, Talk to B.
During the interview, the actor maintained his innocence, claiming he had been “set up” by comedienne Princess. He also alleged that actress Iyabo Ojo had previously entrusted him with the care of her children.
The interview quickly triggered outrage online, with members of the public and advocacy groups accusing Adebayo of giving a platform to a convicted offender and, in the process, appearing to enable child abuse.
Supporters and followers of both Iyabo Ojo and Princess were among those who strongly condemned the interview, intensifying calls for accountability.
By Tuesday evening, the backlash had escalated significantly, prompting Adebayo to remove the interview video and address the public directly through her Instagram page.
In an emotional video, a visibly shaken Adebayo insisted that she had no intention of defending Baba Ijesha or damaging the image of anyone connected to the case.
“I apologise to everyone. I’m very sorry, please forgive me. I will never support a rapist or pedophile,” she said. “I thought I was just an interviewer… I thought he would apologise, but he did not do so.”
Her apology comes amid continued public debate over media responsibility, accountability, and the ethics of giving controversial figures a public platform.
