Former Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Political Matters, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has raised alarm over the state of the nation, warning that Nigeria is facing deeper challenges now than when the current administration took office in 2023.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV on Tuesday, Baba-Ahmed said both the economy and security situation have deteriorated significantly under the present government.
“We are in deeper trouble than when you came,” he stated, expressing concern over what he described as a worsening national crisis.
He particularly highlighted the growing scale of violence across the country, noting that the situation has become more severe than anticipated.
“Violence is becoming a lot more serious than we anticipated. Three years into President Tinubu’s presidency, we’re seeing an escalation in both the pattern of violence and its impact on our people that we’ve never seen before,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed recalled that Tinubu came into office with strong promises to tackle insecurity, improve living standards, and ensure the safety of Nigerians, but argued that those expectations have not been met.
“The president himself would admit that he has failed to do this, to live up to the promises he has made and to make Nigerians safe,” he added.
He also took aim at the timing of recent government engagements, referencing the president’s state visit to the United Kingdom, which he said appeared celebratory despite ongoing security concerns at home.
According to him, the trip came shortly after one of the most devastating attacks in Borno State, raising questions about the government’s priorities.
“It occurred just days after one of the most horrendous attacks in Borno State, a few days before the departure of this huge contingent that the President led,” Baba-Ahmed lamented.
