Romano Clarifies Reports Linking Iniesta to Morocco Technical Director Role

Renowned football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has clarified reports linking Spanish football legend Andrés Iniesta with a potential role as technical director of the Morocco national football team following the resignation of head coach Walid Regragui.

Speculation had emerged in several media outlets suggesting that Iniesta was set to take up a senior technical role within Morocco’s football structure as part of efforts to strengthen the team’s technical direction ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

However, Romano stated that while there have been discussions regarding the possibility, no agreement has been reached between Iniesta and Moroccan football authorities.

According to the journalist, the situation remains at a preliminary stage, with no official confirmation or signed deal regarding the former Spain international’s appointment.

The development follows the recent departure of Regragui from his role as head coach of the Moroccan national team. In response, the country’s football federation has appointed Mohamed Ouahbi as the new head coach.

Morocco, which reached the historic semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, is currently restructuring its technical setup as it prepares for upcoming international competitions, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Iniesta, widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of his generation, enjoyed a decorated career with FC Barcelona and the Spain national football team, winning multiple domestic and international titles, including the 2010 FIFA World Cup with Spain.
