Seun Kuti Calls for Jail Term for Pastors Who Perform ‘Staged’ Miracles, Proposes Law Backed by Medical Verification

Nigerian musician Oluseun Anikulapo Kuti, the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, has called on the Nigerian government to prosecute pastors who perform what he described as “staged” miracles.

In a recent live video, Seun Kuti expressed concern over pastors who claim to perform supernatural feats that cannot be verified under medical scrutiny. He urged the government to enact a law stipulating that no individual is permitted to perform miracles unless the acts can be replicated in the presence of medical professionals.

He proposed that pastors found guilty of fabricating miracles should face imprisonment. According to Kuti, the only exception would be if the miracle can be verified at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, where they must demonstrate the miracle on at least ten patients.

“I do not want to hear about fake miracles, because your God can do all things,” he stated. “I am not talking about cases where someone is blind but can regain partial vision. I mean instances where a person has no eyeballs at all. If the miracle is real, the person should gain full vision. If you cannot perform the miracle, you should be held accountable. Those unable to perform should face fifty years in prison.”
