FG Launches Second TVET Cohort, Offers ₦22,500 Monthly Stipend to Boost Youth Skills and Jobs

The Federal Ministry of Education has officially opened applications for the second cohort of its flagship Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Programme, in a renewed push to tackle youth unemployment and strengthen Nigeria’s skilled workforce.

Announced on Monday, 13 April 2026, the initiative invites young Nigerians nationwide to enrol in a structured skills development programme aimed at equipping participants with practical, industry-relevant competencies for employment and entrepreneurship.

The Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the programme as a critical pillar in the Federal Government’s human capital development strategy. He noted that the initiative aligns with the policy direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to the Minister, the TVET programme is designed to create sustainable pathways for self-reliance by providing hands-on training, recognised certification, and direct exposure to high-demand sectors.

In a move to expand opportunities, the Ministry is partnering with the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism to integrate creative and cultural industries into the training framework, tapping into Nigeria’s growing creative economy.

Participants will undergo intensive training lasting between six months and one year at accredited centres across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Each trainee will receive a monthly stipend of ₦22,500, subject to verified attendance through a biometric monitoring system.

The programme covers a wide range of sectors, including construction, ICT, automotive technology, agriculture, fashion, cosmetology, tourism, catering, leather works, and creative media.

Applicants are required to demonstrate commitment to full participation and must provide their National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN) during registration.

The Ministry urged eligible Nigerians to seize the opportunity by applying via the official portal, emphasizing that the initiative remains central to the government’s broader effort to drive economic growth through skills acquisition and youth empowerment.
