Liverpool FC manager Arne Slot has dismissed growing speculation over his future, insisting he retains the full backing of the club’s ownership despite a troubling dip in form.
Liverpool’s recent struggles have intensified scrutiny around Slot, with inconsistent performances and heavy defeats denting their ambitions across domestic and European competitions. The pressure mounted following a painful FA Cup exit to Manchester City and a humbling defeat to reigning Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain.
Speaking after the loss in Paris, Slot maintained that support from the club’s hierarchy remains unwavering. He described internal discussions with key figures, including sporting director Richard Hughes and CEO of football Michael Edwards, as positive, stressing that he feels “complete” backing during what he admits is a difficult spell.
Beyond the boardroom, Slot highlighted the continued loyalty of Liverpool supporters, noting that fans have stood by the team despite disappointing results.
“In Paris, and even after the 4-0 loss against City, the fans were still singing and clapping for us,” Slot said. “That tells you everything about this club.”
He believes that unity between players, staff, and fans will be vital as Liverpool look to revive their season. However, results remain a concern, with the team slipping down the league table and their European hopes hanging in the balance.
Questions over mentality and consistency have also surfaced, with Slot recently acknowledging that some performances lacked the required intensity.
Amid the uncertainty, speculation has linked former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso with a potential return to Anfield in a managerial capacity. For now, though, the club’s leadership appears committed to giving Slot time to steady the ship.
Looking ahead, Slot described the current phase as “defining,” with an opportunity to respond quickly as Liverpool prepare to host Fulham FC at Anfield.
“We faced the champions of Europe and saw the level we need to reach,” he said. “Now we have a few days to prove we can be more competitive and keep improving.”
As Liverpool navigate a critical stretch of the season, Slot’s resolve and the backing behind him could prove decisive in shaping their campaign.
