Tinubu Mourns Fallen Troops, Vows Relentless Fight After Borno Terror Attack

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed profound grief over the killing of soldiers from the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation HADIN KAI, following a coordinated terrorist attack on their base in Benisheikh, Borno State.

The deadly assault, confirmed by the Defence Headquarters, occurred in the early hours of Thursday, April 9, 2026, resulting in multiple casualties among the troops stationed at the frontline of Nigeria’s counterinsurgency operations.

In a statement, the President extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, the Nigerian military, and the people of Borno State, urging them to remain steadfast in the face of the painful loss.

Tinubu paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the troops, commending their efforts in repelling the attackers and preventing insurgents from overrunning vulnerable communities.

“From the reports I have received, our armed forces have sustained intense land and air offensives against insurgents, neutralising many of their fighters and commanders. This counterattack is a sign of desperation,” the President stated.

He specifically honoured the fallen soldiers led by Oseni Omoh Braimah, describing their sacrifice as a testament to courage and patriotism in the defence of the nation.

Reassuring the military of continued government support, Tinubu urged troops across all theatres of operation not to lose morale but to draw strength from national appreciation and their commitment to duty.

“Their sacrifices will not be in vain. Our resolve to defeat terrorism and all forms of violence is stronger than ever,” he affirmed, pledging improved welfare and provision of necessary equipment for the Armed Forces.

The President also called on Nigerians and the media to stand firmly behind the military, cautioning against any narratives that glorify or trivialise attacks on security personnel.

As the nation mourns, the Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Borno State government to restore peace and achieve a decisive victory against insurgency.
