It’s Not a Crime for Boss to Date Apprentice — Veteran Actor Taiwo Hassan

Veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan Ogogo has weighed in on relationships within the theatre industry, stating that it is not wrong for a boss to express romantic interest in an apprentice, provided it is consensual and free from coercion.

Speaking in an interview with Feelrightvnews, the renowned actor addressed the dynamics often seen between senior practitioners and newcomers in theatre groups.

According to him, relationships in such environments can develop naturally, and there is no issue as long as both parties are adults and mutually agree.

“It’s not a crime for a boss to ask his apprentice out… there should not be a problem in a boss dating his apprentice as long as he didn’t force her,” he said.

He also suggested that some individuals join theatre groups with intentions beyond learning the craft, noting that personal attraction to industry figures sometimes plays a role.

Reflecting on his early days at the Odunfa Theatre, Ogogo explained that different people were drawn to different stars for various reasons, including admiration for popular actors.

“When I was at Odunfa then, some girls came because of Yinka Quadri, some because of me, and some because of Abbey Lanre,” he said.

He added that in some cases, conversations about relationships happened openly among consenting adults, stressing that there was nothing inherently wrong with such interactions when they are mutual.
