Eight residents of Mbwelle Village in Kwatas District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, were killed in a late-night attack on April 9, in what authorities describe as a fresh wave of reprisal violence in the region.
The assault, which reportedly occurred around 10:30 p.m., has been linked to suspected Fulani bandits, according to security sources. The incident was first brought to public attention by security analyst Zagazola Makama, known for tracking insurgency developments in the Lake Chad region.
Those killed in the હુમ (attack) were identified as Habila Istifanus (38), Hassan Istifanus (31), Iliya Mangut (70), Sunday Gideon (31), Innocent Banabas (20), Lucky Titus (38), Wisdom Lucky (15), and Bwehsun Hassan (25).
Joint security forces said they acted swiftly on receiving a distress call but arrived after the assailants had already fled. A security source cited the distance between the military base and the affected community approximately 15 kilometres along with difficult terrain, as key factors that delayed intervention.
All victims, including the injured, were evacuated to Bokkos Cottage Hospital for treatment.
Security operatives have since launched a manhunt to apprehend those responsible, as concerns mount over escalating violence and the vulnerability of rural communities in Plateau State.
