Saheed Osupa Stands Firm on Ifa Beliefs Despite Criticism from Clerics

Veteran Fuji musician Saheed Osupa has sparked widespread debate after openly admitting to engaging in traditional spiritual practices, commonly referred to as “juju,” as part of his personal journey toward success.

The revelation came during a live performance at the 52nd birthday celebration of veteran actor Fatai Odua, popularly known as Lalude, on March 30, 2026. In a video from the event that has since gone viral, the singer was seen addressing his backup vocalists, humorously advising them to consider spiritual means to improve their performance and memory on stage.

Speaking candidly, Osupa clarified that his practices are not intended for harm but rather for personal growth and well-being. He recounted how he once rejected advice to publicly deny being associated with such practices.

“I was told to grant an interview and deny being fetish, but I refused. I do what I do for progress, not for evil,” he said, adding that he regularly pays homage to Ifa as part of his routine.

The Fuji star further argued that many people engage in similar practices privately, while he chooses to be transparent. He dismissed claims that his success could be attributed solely to conventional means, questioning whether ordinary medications could bring prosperity.

His comments have since drawn criticism, particularly from Islamic commentators and clerics who expressed concern over his influence on followers. Some urged the singer to renounce such practices, emphasizing faith in God as the true source of success.

In response to the backlash, Osupa maintained that he holds respect for both the Bible and the Quran and acknowledged Jesus Christ and Prophet Muhammad as messengers of God. However, he criticized what he described as performative religiosity among some critics.
