Yusuf Buhari, son of late former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, has formally declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
In a letter dated April 3, 2026, Yusuf expressed his ambition to represent the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The letter, titled “Expression of Interest to Contest for the Seat of House of Representatives,” highlighted his desire to contribute to effective leadership and development within the constituency.
“I am extremely delighted to inform you of my intention to contest… as my contribution to ensuring good and qualitative leadership,” he stated, emphasizing plans to drive infrastructural growth and human capital development if elected.
The development was confirmed by Bashir Ahmad, former special assistant on digital communications to the late president, who noted that Yusuf’s decision followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders.
His declaration comes shortly after influential members of the APC in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State endorsed him as their preferred candidate for the constituency. The endorsement was reached during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held at the local government secretariat.
Speaking at the gathering, council chairman Usman Na-Lado described the move as a collective decision, citing Yusuf’s perceived capacity and growing acceptance within party ranks.
The meeting also reaffirmed the constituency’s support for Bola Tinubu and Dikko Radda as the APC’s preferred candidates for the presidency and governorship, respectively, in the 2027 elections.
Yusuf Buhari’s entry into the race signals a notable extension of the Buhari political legacy, setting the stage for what could become a closely watched contest in Katsina State.
