2027 Lagos Guber Race: Samuel Ajose Withdraws, Backs Obafemi Hamzat Ahead of APC Primary

Samuel Ajose, an aspirant in the 2027 Lagos State governorship race under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has withdrawn from the contest and declared his support for Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat ahead of the party’s primary election. Ajose described the decision as a difficult one, admitting that he struggled with it through the night before finally finding peace with his choice by morning.

According to him, the move came after deep reflection on what would best serve the interests of party members, supporters, and other stakeholders. He explained that unity within the APC and the overall benefit of everyone involved influenced his decision, adding that the party had worked hard to carry members along and protect their interests.

Formally announcing his withdrawal, Ajose pledged full support for Hamzat’s ambition and promised to actively participate in his campaign. He said he and his team would take up important roles in the campaign structure to ensure victory for the APC candidate during the governorship election.

Ajose’s withdrawal comes just weeks after former Lagos governorship candidate Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, also stepped down from the race and endorsed Hamzat. Jandor had revealed that his decision followed the endorsement of Hamzat by President Bola Tinubu and influential APC leaders in Lagos State.
