The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, following his recent conviction by the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations of fraud and money laundering linked to his time in office.
EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, confirmed that Mamman was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday in Kaduna. According to reports, he was apprehended alongside two other individuals alleged to have been helping him evade authorities. The anti-graft agency is also investigating the residence where the arrest was carried out.
Mamman served as Minister of Power between August 2019 and September 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari. He was sworn into office on August 21, 2019, after his nomination and confirmation by the Senate. Buhari later removed him from office in September 2021 and replaced him with Abubakar Aliyu.
In May 2026, the Federal High Court convicted Mamman and sentenced him to 75 years in prison over fraud and money laundering involving more than N33.8 billion, an amount estimated at about $24.7 million. The case is one of the major corruption prosecutions involving a former cabinet member in recent years.
