The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Plateau State Primaries Electoral Committee, Stella Okotete, has dismissed earlier results announced for the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam (PKK) House of Representatives primary election, describing them as unauthorized and invalid.
The committee subsequently affirmed Hon. Yusuf Gagdi as the duly elected winner of the primary election.
Okotete, who addressed journalists in Jos on Monday, clarified that only the officially appointed returning officer, Nandom Andrew Kura, has the constitutional authority to announce the outcome of the election. She stressed that any prior declaration made outside this mandate should be disregarded as it holds no legitimacy.
Following this clarification, Kura, who served as the recognized returning officer, formally declared Yusuf Gagdi as the winner of the APC primary election for the PKK federal constituency, which was held on Saturday.
Speaking after his declaration, Gagdi maintained that the exercise was conducted across all 36 electoral wards, adding that there was evidence such as accreditation records, videos, and photographs to support the credibility of the process.
He dismissed reports of multiple result announcements, stating that he was only aware of two declarations, one of which has now been confirmed as invalid.
Gagdi also alleged that an earlier announcement attributed to one Daspan Ishaya was fraudulent, insisting that the individual was neither appointed by the electoral committee nor authorised to declare results.
He emphasized that the party’s constitution and guidelines clearly assign the responsibility of appointing election officials to the electoral committee, adding that any declaration made outside that framework is “null and void.”
He further questioned the legitimacy of the disputed announcement, alleging inconsistencies in the individual’s involvement in the electoral process.
