Dangote Industries Limited has commenced preliminary engagement and survey activities for the multi-billion-dollar Olokola Deep Seaport project, a major component of the Group’s Vision 2030 expansion strategy. The proposed deep seaport and industrial enclave will cover more than 10,000 hectares within the Olokola Free Trade Zone, stretching across Ogun Waterside Local Government Area and extending eastward to Ilaje Local Government Area along the Atlantic coastline.
The project has already secured strong support from host communities, whose leaders expressed optimism about its economic impact and praised the industrial vision of Aliko Dangote. Community representatives described the proposed seaport as a transformative development capable of boosting commerce, infrastructure and employment opportunities in the region.
Designed as a strategic logistics and export hub, the Olokola Deep Seaport aligns with Dangote Industries’ ambition to expand into maritime infrastructure, logistics and export-driven industrialisation. The Group is targeting annual revenues of $100 billion while seeking a place among the world’s top 100 companies within the next five years.
Leading the company’s delegation to the host communities, Capt. Jamil Abubakar said the project would reposition the region economically and place the host communities on the global map. According to him, the deep seaport is being developed as a logistics gateway for an integrated industrial ecosystem that will strengthen Africa’s maritime trade capacity and support regional commerce.
He explained that the port would serve as the logistics backbone for Dangote Industries by facilitating exports of fertiliser, petrochemicals and refined petroleum products, while also supporting future Liquefied Natural Gas exports and the importation of heavy industrial equipment. Abubakar added that the project would help unlock Nigeria’s economic potential by reducing pressure on existing ports, strengthening trade and accelerating industrial growth.
The delegation, accompanied by land surveyors, estate valuers and environmental consultants, visited the Ode-Omi community as well as Araromi Seaside Kingdom and Igbokoda, where community leaders welcomed the initiative and pledged their support. The company said the project reflects its commitment to building infrastructure that benefits both host communities and the wider Nigerian economy.
