Brazil forward Neymar has kept his hopes of playing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup alive after being named in Brazil’s 55-man provisional squad by head coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Veteran sports journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development via X (formerly Twitter), noting the inclusion of the 34-year-old Santos FC striker despite ongoing concerns over his fitness.
Neymar, who has struggled with recurring injuries in recent seasons, remains determined to prove his readiness for the tournament scheduled to take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico in 2026.
Reports from Brazil indicate that Ancelotti is taking a cautious approach regarding Neymar’s physical condition, insisting that only fully fit players will make the final squad selection.
Meanwhile, Chelsea FC youngster Estevão Willian has been left out of the provisional list after sustaining a hamstring injury that ruled him out of contention.
Although Neymar’s place in the final 26-man squad is not guaranteed, the former FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star is reportedly eager to feature in what could be his final World Cup appearance.
The Brazil national football team, five-time World Cup winners and chasing a record sixth title, are expected to announce their final squad on May 18 ahead of the tournament.
The team will go into the competition as one of the favourites under Ancelotti’s leadership.
