Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has officially stepped into the 2027 presidential race on the platform of the Accord Party, with growing attention following his recent political engagements and endorsements.
His political ambition became more visible after a visit to Oba Ajara, where he sought royal blessings and received a public endorsement from the monarch.
Oba Ajara, a 90-year-old veteran politician and former associate of late political leader Olusola Saraki, described Hashim as “the only true opposition leader” in Nigeria, saying his endorsement was based on years of political experience and understanding of the country’s democratic evolution.
Speaking at a political gathering in Kwara Central, the monarch said his support was informed by more than six decades in politics, adding that Hashim has the leadership capacity to address Nigeria’s current challenges.
He also expressed concern over what he described as the weakening of opposition politics in the country, noting that many opposition figures have failed to properly hold government accountable, leaving a gap in democratic engagement.
Oba Ajara further stated that the Accord Party would serve as the platform for Hashim’s 2027 presidential bid and called on political stakeholders and supporters across Kwara and beyond to rally behind the movement. In response, Hashim expressed appreciation for the endorsement, describing it as an honour and a responsibility, while reaffirming his commitment to national unity, economic recovery, justice, and democratic renewal.
