Gov Eno Urges NYSC Members in Akwa Ibom to Serve With Integrity, Dedication

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has called on corps members deployed to the state to see their postings as a unique opportunity to serve the nation with honesty, dedication, and selflessness.

The governor made the appeal during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch A Stream 2 orientation course held at the National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp in Nsit-Antai Local Government Area on Tuesday.

Represented by the Director of Administration and Supply in the Ministry of Youth Development, Mr Anthony Isonguyo, who stood in for the Permanent Secretary, Eno commended the corps members for successfully completing the orientation exercise without any casualties.

He described the orientation programme as a vital component of the NYSC scheme and urged the corps members to contribute meaningfully to nation-building by educating citizens on their civic responsibilities and promoting peace and equality in society.

According to him, the corps members’ educational qualifications, acquired skills, and deployment across different communities in the state position them to make positive impacts during their service year.

“I therefore urge you to accept your posting as a rare opportunity to serve your fatherland with honesty, dedication, and selflessness,” the governor stated.

Eno also praised the corps members for their discipline and cooperation with camp officials throughout the orientation programme, encouraging them to maintain the same level of humility, loyalty, and good conduct during and after their service year.

The governor further assured the corps members that Akwa Ibom remains peaceful and hospitable, advising them to integrate freely with residents while respecting the cultural values and traditions of their host communities.

He noted that previous corps members had left commendable legacies in various sectors across the state and urged the new batch to sustain and surpass those achievements.

Eno also issued a security warning, cautioning corps members against travelling at night under any circumstance. He advised that whenever a journey extends beyond 6 p.m., they should seek shelter at a corps lodge, police station, or military barracks for safety.
