Gunmen Raid Kwara Community, Burn Emir’s Palace and Kidnap Residents in Midnight Attack

Residents of Yashikira community in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State were thrown into fear and confusion after suspected bandits launched a deadly overnight attack, setting parts of the Emir’s palace ablaze and abducting several villagers, including women and children.

The attack reportedly occurred in the early hours of the morning when heavily armed men invaded the quiet border community, firing gunshots indiscriminately as residents fled their homes for safety. Witnesses said the sound of gunfire echoed across the area, creating panic and chaos among villagers caught off guard by the sudden assault.

According to local sources, the attackers stormed the Emir’s palace during the raid and set sections of the royal residence on fire before moving through the community. In the process, several residents were reportedly seized and taken away to an unknown location by the gunmen.

Villagers said the assailants operated for hours without any resistance, leaving behind widespread fear and destruction. Some residents described the incident as one of the most frightening attacks the community has witnessed in recent times, noting that many families were forced to hide in nearby bushes to escape the violence.

In response to the incident, security operatives, including soldiers and police personnel, have reportedly launched rescue operations across the area. Authorities were said to have cordoned off parts of the community while efforts continue to rescue about 10 persons believed to have been abducted during the attack.

Despite the growing concern among residents, security authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident. The latest attack has further raised fears over worsening insecurity in vulnerable communities across the region, especially in areas close to Nigeria’s border corridors.
