NDC Sets Up 20-Member High-Level Committee to Drive Transparent 2026 Primaries

Nigeria Democratic Congress has constituted a 20-member National Selection Committee to supervise the screening and selection of aspirants ahead of its forthcoming governorship and National Assembly primaries. The move is part of the party’s efforts to strengthen transparency and internal democracy in its candidate selection process.

The committee is scheduled to be formally inaugurated on Monday, May 25, 2026, after which members are expected to hold their first official meeting. The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu.

According to the statement, the decision followed recommendations by the party’s National Working Committee and received approval from the National Leader as preparations intensify for the upcoming primaries. The party said the committee would play a key role in ensuring a credible and fair selection process for all aspirants.

The National Selection Committee has been mandated to review and scrutinise reports submitted by the National Screening Committee before making final decisions on the eligibility of aspirants seeking to contest under the party’s platform. The party also stated that only aspirants cleared by both committees would be allowed to purchase nomination forms.

Moses Zuwoghe will chair the committee, while Barrister Enekweizu will serve as secretary. Other members include Buba Galadima, Yunusa Tanko, Udenta Udenta, Aminu Abdulsalam, Mohammed Bakin Zuwo and Shittu Mohammed, among others.

The party appealed for patience and cooperation from aspirants and stakeholders, noting the tight schedule for completing the process. It added that consensus arrangements would be encouraged where possible, but direct primaries would be conducted from May 28 to May 30, 2026, in areas where consensus could not be reached. The NDC reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent, inclusive and credible process aimed at promoting party unity and electoral success.
