Peter Obi Cleared for NDC Presidential Primary After Screening in Abuja

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has been cleared to contest the presidential primary of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

The clearance was announced by the Chairman of the party’s National Screening Committee, Sam Egwu, following a screening exercise held in Abuja on Tuesday. The announcement was later shared in a video posted on the party’s official X account.

According to Egwu, the committee carefully reviewed Obi’s eligibility in line with the party’s constitution and relevant electoral laws. He said the panel was satisfied that the former Anambra State governor met all the requirements needed to participate in the presidential primary.

He explained that Obi complied fully with the provisions of the party constitution, the Electoral Act, and the 1999 Constitution (as amended). He also noted that the former presidential candidate gave clear and satisfactory responses to all questions raised during the screening.

In his reaction on X, Obi said the screening session lasted over two and a half hours and involved a thorough review of his documents, including academic certificates, NYSC records, and age declarations. He added that he was also questioned on his vision for Nigeria and his plans for leadership.

Obi further confirmed that he was cleared and issued the presidential nomination form he had already paid for. He also praised the screening committee and party leadership for what he described as a transparent, fair, and well-conducted process.
