Police Arrest Two in Kogi, Recover 339 Wraps of Suspected Indian Hemp During Highway Operation

The Kogi State Police Command has arrested two suspects after recovering 339 wraps of suspected Indian hemp hidden inside a vehicle during a routine stop-and-search operation in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Bello Kankarofi, disclosed this while addressing journalists on Tuesday. He explained that the operation was carried out on May 9, 2026, at about 2 p.m. by officers attached to the Kabba Area Command during routine highway patrol and checks.

According to the police commissioner, operatives stopped a Honda Pilot Jeep with registration number LSD 456 GE and discovered the suspected drugs after conducting a search on the vehicle. The driver, identified as Chris Amos, 52, and a passenger, Bilat Joseph, were immediately arrested. Preliminary investigations reportedly revealed that the suspects picked up the consignment in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on the instruction of a man identified only as “Alhaji,” and were transporting it to Yola, Adamawa State, before they were intercepted.

Kankarofi said the suspects are currently assisting investigators, while the recovered substances have been secured as exhibits. He stressed that drug trafficking remains a major contributor to violent crimes and insecurity, adding that the command would continue aggressive operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and preventing the movement of illicit drugs across the state. He also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, the Kogi State Government, and residents for their continued support and useful intelligence.
